Public Theater tickets & upcoming events

The Public Theater's Newman Theater is a real gem in the heart of New York City. It’s got this super flexible stage platform that can be tweaked to fit just about any production, whether it’s a small intimate play or a big flashy musical. Back in 2001, it played a huge role in Suzan-Lori Parks winning her Pulitzer Prize for Topdog/Underdog, which is kind of a big deal. The place got a facelift in 2015 too, with improvements to the delivery area that make set changes way faster, no more waiting around forever. I love that they actually listen to what folks say too; they keep tweaking things to make the experience better. The mezzanine seats are clearly marked, so you don’t get lost trying to find your spot, and the balcony offers this surprisingly good sound, like, it’s worth sitting up there just for the acoustics. Getting there? If you’re coming from the 8th Street-NYU station, just head east on 8th Street toward the avenue, and you’ll be there in no time. Plus, it’s just a short walk from Strand Books, which is basically a must-visit for any book lover. Honestly, whether you're catching a classic play or a lively new production, the Newman Theater really knows how to deliver an authentic New York theater experience.
